THE CLASSIC THAT
SHOULDN'T BE
CAN BOOKS SAVE CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL SHOOTINGS?
Yet physically and mentally as well...
This new classic is uniquely protected by a Kevlar cover, the same material utilized in bulletproof vests. This choice symbolises a future where shootings have regrettably become so common that they are no longer surprising occurrences within a child's typical school day.
Through this metaphor, it raises pertinent questions about the ability of governments and schools to ensure our safety.
Concept by Madalena Marques & Rafter Manguiat
For the visual concept, we opted for a symbolic representation of the relationship between two key aspects of the story: the sheep and wolf duo. The sheep embodies childish innocence, akin to a vulnerable prey, while the wolf represents the well-established predator often depicted in children's tales.
Our visual approach utilizes a monochromatic palette, with subtle accents of yellow strategically placed to highlight glimpses of hope within the narrative.
While the illustrations draw inspiration from children's stories, they are crafted for an adult audience. Therefore, our aim was to infuse the artwork with darkness, capturing the sheer terror of the situation.
